Jonah Sandford

Jonah Sandford
Executive Director


Jonah grew up in Missoula, Montana, and moved to Oregon in 2003 after graduating from the University of Montana. After a few years of adventures, Jonah completed a year of post-baccalaureate studies at Oregon State University, focusing on fish ecology and ecological restoration. He then enrolled at Lewis & Clark Law School, where he graduated in 2015 with an Environmental and Natural Resources Certificate. During law school, Jonah clerked for WaterWatch of Oregon, Earthjustice, and the Center for Biological Diversity, and also worked extensively with the Northwest Environmental Defense Center and the Earthrise Law Center. In his free time, Jonah spends as much time as possible canoeing, floating, and swimming in Pacific Northwest rivers with his wife and brand new son.



Greg McMillan

Greg McMillan
Director of Science and Conservation


Greg directs the Deschutes River Alliance’s work on monitoring and fixing water quality issues in the lower Deschutes. Greg’s educational and work background in geology and molecularbiology, paired with his business development and clinical science experience in the private sector gives Greg solid experience in leading a group of experts in examining the health of the Deschutes River. Greg also served as vice-president of the Board of Directors for Oregon Trout and was president of Anglers Club of Portland for three terms. Greg also was volunteer director of conservation for two terms at Anglers Club of Portland and an unpaid staff member for Oregon Trout’s Deschutes River Project in the early 1990s.



Cory McCaffrey

A native of Sisters, Oregon, Cory was introduced to fishing and floating on the Lower Deschutes at a young age and has not looked back. Cory’s undergraduate studies at the Portland State University focused on the facets and applications of the natural sciences. Cory is continuing at Portland State University as a Post-Baccalaureate student seeking graduate education in Environmental Science, with a specific interest in aquatic entomology. He desires to help preserve and protect what makes the Deschutes so special, and strive to make it as healthy as possible. His time spent out of academics consists of climbing, hiking, and fishing for trout and steelhead throughout the Pacific Northwest.



Sara Gaylon, Program Assistant

A native of Sacramento, California, Sara is currently a junior at the University of Oregon double majoring in Economics and History with a minor in Environmental Studies. She participates in the American English Institute where she works as a conversation partner. She is also active in UO’s Mock Trial Program where she serves as President. Sara’s goals for the future include pursuing an environmental law degree focused on water quality. In her free time, Sara enjoys backpacking and hiking throughout California and Oregon.
