In the early 1970’s, when few others were doing it, Steve Pettit and Bill Bakke were casting for steelhead with floating lines, fiberglass rods and click pawl Pflueger reels. They were sometimes sought after for advice and inspiration by two younger anglers, then in their 20’s, Randle Stetzer and John Hazel. The excitement of those experiences helped to launch Steve and Bill into careers in conservation. Bill founded Oregon Trout and the Native Fish Society. Steve went to work for Idaho Fish and Game as the agency’s Columbia Basin Fish Passage Specialist, a position from which he fought for steelhead and salmon for over 30 years. John and Randle became two of the Pacific Northwest’s top steelhead guides, as well as advocates for the health of the rivers they love. Come hear and see about the pioneering days of steelhead fly fishing 50 years ago, as well as an assessment of what the future may hold for the sport. Tickets on sale April 1.
